St. John's Hospital has received a $255,000 federal grant to support expansion of Telehomecare Monitoring for patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) living in rural areas of central and southern Illinois.

09.01.10 SIU Med School Receives Federal Grant to Study Breast Cancer
A research scientist at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield has been awarded a five-year grant from the National Cancer Institute, a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), to study ways to prevent or reduce metastasis in breast cancer. The total budget for the grant is $1,521,659.

08.26.10 LLCC students pinned at July CNA ceremony
The following Lincoln Land Community College students received a pin and certificate for completing the Basic Nurse Assistant course at a pinning ceremony that was held July 29 at LLCC’s main campus in Springfield. They are now eligible to take the Nurse Aide Competency Exam to become certified nursing assistants (CNA). The students are listed in hometown order.
